Empties Since March 2022

Empties from March to April so two months. I obsessed over using my samples so... My empties are mainly samples. Now I feel bad for my bottles that haven't received any love. I also feel bad for my face because it doesn't like adapting to new things everyday and becomes unpredictable.

Face

A pile of samples

My goal was to finish at least 20 sample pouches and I finished 36 if I counted right... One sample has 1-2 ml of product usually so that makes 36-72 ml of product! That is quite a lot. Most of my samples are expired but I am experimental so I didn't care, lol. Hoarding the samples is not smart so in the future I am going to use all samples immediately.

My favorites were maybe It's Skin WH Effector (discontinued), Holika Holika Smooth Egg Skin Peeling Gel, Skin Regimen Cleansing Cream, Etude House One Shot Morning Gel Cleanser (discontinued), ... I liked quite many of them! Others were non memorable or broke me out!

I still have samples (old and new) so my next goal is at least 20 samples again.

Sheetmasks: The Saem Natural Potato, Charcoal, Tea Tree, Juicyful Calming Energy Care Hibiscus

I have completely forgotten that sheet masks exist. So, I try to use the lot that I found in my drawer. They are nice when you are very dry or using a treatment that makes your face peel etc but they are too bothersome for everyday kind of use and do not offer special benefits. Especially considering the price and waste.

My favorite was The Saem Natural Charcoal. Probably discontinued product line anyway!

Garnier Ambre Solair Anti-Dryness Super UV with Glycerin SPF50+

Nice sunscreen! No white cast, doesn't break me out, however shiny. Good that I finished it before summer though, I want to explore more drying options now. Definitely don't need a moisturizer with this one, not even during winter usually. Might repurchase later on if it is still available.

Body

Garnier Ambre Solaire UV Water Spray SPF30

Aye, I think I bought this sunscreen in 2019. Half used. I just didn't like it very much in the end... I don't mind using expired products as I do not think they go bad immediately, but this 2022 would be the 4th summer for this SPF and I have to draw the line somewhere! (I do not use body sunscreen during winter. No point with all the winter clothes, hats, scarves, coats and gloves etc. plus the sun just doesn't even go up for several months!)

Rexona Maximum Protection Sport Strength Antiperspirant

Another one. Been my staple for a while. Anxiously waiting for it to stop working. I have a few backups.

L300 Cleansing Milk

This is for face but I finished it using for my body. It was difficult to get out of the bottle because it is so thick cream that the nozzle just gets clogged. Either you get nothing or a huge clump when you try to shake and squeeze. Barely cleansing at all. Just adding a layer of cream slime. But, I could see people with VERY VERY dry cracked irritated skin using this - but it has been discontinued along the other cheap basics from L300.

The Body Shop Frosted Plum Body Lotion

Yeaahh... oldie. Got as a gift with the Frosted Plum Shower Gel. The shower gel was nice and it's long gone! This lotion is moisturizing and absorbs nicely so nothing wrong with that... but... the fragrance. It is too much. In the beginning it was kinda nice, but it is sooo overpowering that even my partner begged me not to wear it to the bed because he couldn't breath and I myself got headache.

Samples: Eyenlip Salmon&Peptide Nutrition Neck Cream

No thanks, will not purchase. Too slimy for me and maybe got a reaction.

Hair

Philip Kingsley Elasticizer Deep Conditioning Treatment Mini Mayan Vanilla & Orange Blossom

I really do like Elasticizer and I have repurchased (after getting a perm, before that this product was whatever). This one is from Lookfantastic Advent Calendar. The original is unscented, this one had a pleasant spicy warm scent. Are these scented ones limited editions? I also have the new Egyptian Jasmine & Mandarin but I find it a bit too strong, especially compared to Mayan Vanilla&Orange Blossom.

Philip Kingsley Elasti-Styler 5-in-1 Treatment

From LF Calendar as well. I did not care for the "old lady" scent but it was not strong. Ok product, somewhat moisturizing for dry hair. Not heavy at all, could use more, but wouldn't purchase, especially without a really good sale. I would just get more Elasticizer and use that as a leave-in mask (for my dry perm hair, for my "normal" straight oily hair I need nothing).

Living Proof 5-in-1 Styling Treatment

Actually this one smelled really good. Fresh, fruity. Otherwise I must admit it didn't do much for my hair (tried it before perm and after). I got it from LF Calendar. However, I rarely do heat styling so maybe it is better suited for that.

L'Oreal Preference High Shine Conditioner

Came with the home hair dye box. I do like this conditioner a lot even though the ingredients don't seem to be anything extra ordinary! Well, it works so it works! I also do like L'Oreal Preference hair dyes. I find them easy to use and the result was exactly what I wanted (at least this time) so it made me question if I should go to hair salon too often - I paid something like 12 € for the home dye and they would have charged me probably at least 80-100 € at the salon.

Shopping from March to April

Believe it or not, I didn't purchase any beauty related things in March. I didn't purchase anything in February, either. I hadn't even put myself to no-buy because I thought it wouldn't work anyway. I have donated my shopping money instead. I think the world situation and the sadness and fear made my artificial wants disappear. If you are able to, please donate to Ukraine's cause.

From March to April I spent about 48 €. That means I have spent about 111 € in 4 months and had 2 shopping free months and it is true what they say: the longer you don't shop, the easier it gets. Or more like... it gets harder to place the orders because it is not a routine thing. Last year I had spent in the first 4 months 123 €. So, the beginning of the year is easier for me because I end up hauling the sales at the end of the year, but this year, I am going to change that!

By the way, Deciem has decided to discontinue some of their brands this year, like Hylamide (that I do like). I am actually a bit mad, first they raise prices noticeably and then discontinue the products that probably do not profit them enough. I do understand they want to focus on Niod and The Ordinary but currently those lineups do not offer what I have been using from Hylamide (SubQ Eyes, Cleansing oil, Vit C Serum). You really can't trust any brand, they always will discontinue or reformulate things or the whole brand will just stop existing.

Biore on top, a bit yellowish gel, SkinAqua on bottom, white lotion.
Both sunscreens dry down clear on me, Skin Aqua has a white cast for a minute or two before it disappears.

Bioré UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence Sunscreen SPF50 PA ++++

Rohto Mentholatum Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Essence Gold SPF 50+ PA++++

My first order from the European (located in Netherlands) Asian beauty webstore Little Wonderland. It seems at least half of the things are out of stock. Wonder if they have trouble stocking, or they do not carry those items anymore. But, they did have these two Japanese sunscreens I've wanted to try. Japanese beauty has been on my list to try next and summer is coming.

Little Wonderland shipped my order the same day and I received a tracking number. It took two weeks to receive my package. It was well packaged. It was very nice not to worry about customs while getting Asian beauty products! They also included 4 sample sachets. I hope Little Wonderland expands their selection and keeps more stock in the future. 45€

Highlighter side barely shows up on my skin alone but when mixed with blush side it does brighten the shade a lot!

Essence Blushlighter in Cassis Sunburst

Essence Blushlighter in Cassis Sunburst

This was an unplanned purchase, on sale 2,5 € because they are discontinued... The shade is lovely! Right there between pink, brown, peachy. Of course looking back, I did not need this blush.

Nivea Sun Face Sensitive Soothing SPF50 Basiron AC Wash Gel 5% Benzoyl Peroxide

Nivea Sun Face Sensitive Soothing SPF50

Basiron AC Wash Gel 5% Benzoyl Peroxide

These were gifts. I am actually trying Benzoyl Peroxide masks for my armpits and feet. There are studies that show that it is effective at killing bacteria (well that's why it is an acne treatment) but it also means it will kill bacteria that makes the sweat smell. Or at least many people have benefited from using Benzoyl Peroxide this way and I am interested if I can be one of them. So far I have used it as a 3 minute mask twice and it is not hot weather yet so the jury is still out. I did try it once on my face too. Holy yikes it is drying. Might try again during summer. I have started going to gym and I feel extra self conscious about sweating. Due to covid I haven't done exercise with other people in the same room for 2 years. I even hired a personal trainer because I feel so out of shape.

Nivea Sun Face Sensitive SPF50 is a good sunscreen, this is my second tube. My first one is finished soon.

Basic Routine Recommendation

Some of the recommended products.

Today I started to think what I would recommend for someone as a basic routine. Obviously choosing only products that I have tried and what suits me and what I could imagine others liking too! I also like a lot of "weird" products (e.g. The Ordinary Pycnogenol 5%, De La Cruz 10% Sulfur etc)  but I wouldn't recommend them first to someone who has no basic skincare routine down just yet.

I know a lot of people who don't do skincare or do the bare minimum (aka random face wash from sale and moisturizer if they can find one at the moment - e.g. my friend just slapped on whatever hand/body cream the hotel offered when we were travelling!). I am not judging and I would 100% do the same if I could!!! Sadly I have always been acne prone and it has lead me to the rabbit hole of skincare.

These products I find very basic but effective. However everyone's skin is different. This is a list of things I would buy for my mom, sister, friend... if they wanted to start a basic routine and they do not have any big skin concerns (severe acne, severe dryness etc). Afterwards they could tailor it better to their needs.

This routine would cost around 60 €-110 € (depending if bare minimum is bought or one of everything) and it would need to be repurchased a few times a year. So it is not exactly a super budget routine but no where near high end.

Clinique Cleansing Oil (fragrance free, emulsifies easily, personally for me adding cleansing oil to routine was game changer)

Garnier Micellar Gel Wash (fragrance free, affordable, washes off easily)

Konjac sponge (for gentle exfoliation/polishing, either with cleansing or afterwards, I tend to use afterwards or in the morning if I have flakes etc)

Differin Adapalene Gel (fragrance free, the powerhouse of the routine - this can be skipped and go with konjac sponge or gentle PHA product but if there is a wish to improve the skin texture more this is the powerful multitasker and there is no need to juggle several serum bottles if that feels too bothersome - I wouldn't even suggest prescription tretinoin to a someone new to skincare - maybe retinol/retinal product instead of Differin but I have no personal good experience with them - if I had to suggest something I'd say Avene's retinal because it's probably gentler than Differin and many others and it can be bought in store unlike Differin - Avene A-Oxitive Night Peeling Cream)

The Ordinary NMF + HA and/or Eucerin Face Urea Repair 5% (both are fragrance free, not very heavy, Eucerin more elegant formula if The Ordinary doesn't cut it, both work under makeup for me)

Garnier Sensitive Face UV Fluid/Super UV Anti-Dark Spots and Anti-Pollution Fluid SPF 50+ whatever-it-is-called-these-days and/or Nivea Sensitive Soothing Face SPF50 (both are fragrance free and work under makeup for me - sunscreens are very personal thing and I would recommend these over Asian ones because they can be bought in store for starter routine - they both have a shiny finish - I'll update if I find a holy grail SPF - I did actually buy Innisfree Anti Aging Serum Sunscreen SPF50+ for my mom who can't figure out online shopping so if it's easily available it's great)

IF dryness or irritation from Differin Gel: A-Derma Dermalibour+ Repairing Cream (fragrance free, thick balm for the night, most of the non skincare users probably would not like the "sticky" feeling on their face)

IF still dry skin: The Ordinary Squalane and/or some hydrating toner/essence/serum (I have to say nothing comes to mind currently that I would just recommend above others - Squalane is easily absorbing fragrance free oil and I find a drop or two can be added almost to anything but most non skincare users usually seem to dislike oily things)

Morning:

Garnier Micellar Gel Wash

(Konjac sponge)

The Ordinary NMF + HA and/or Eucerin Face Urea Repair 5%

Garnier Sensitive Face UV Fluid/Super UV Anti-Dark Spots and Anti-Pollution Fluid SPF 50+ whatever-it-is-called-these-days and/or Nivea Sensitive Soothing Face SPF50 (Innisfree Anti Aging Serum Sunscreen SPF50+)

Evening:

Clinique Cleansing Oil

Garnier Micellar Gel Wash

(Konjac sponge)

(Differin Adapalene Gel) (Avene A-Oxitive Night Peeling Cream)

(some hydrating toner/essence/serum)

The Ordinary NMF + HA and/or Eucerin Face Urea Repair 5%

(The Ordinary Squalane)

(A-Derma Dermalibour+ Repairing Cream)

Korean Skincare Sample Reviews Part 11 Miscellaneous

I can't believe how difficult it is to find ingredients for the products. Well, most are expired and reformulated, but still. You would think there is some trace of them online and companies would list them openly on their websites.

My earlier sample reviews:

True Island Honey Bee Venom Multi Solution Cream

Ingredients:

WATER, DIMETHICONE, GLYCERIN, BEE VENOM, ALCOHOL DENAT. BIS-PEG-18 METHYL ETHER, DIMETHYL SILANE, PEG-11 METHYL ETHER DIMETHICONE, ETHYLHEXYL, ISONONANOATE, HONEY EXTRACT, HYDROLYZED COLLAGEN, SODIUM HYALURONATE, HYDROXYETHYL ACRYLATE/SODIUM ACRYLOYLDIMETHYL, TAURATE COPOLYMER, PROPOLIS EXTRACT, ETHYL HEXANEDIOL, CARBOMER, TRIETHANOLAMINE, PEG-40 HYDROGENATED CASTOR OIL, PPG-26-BUTETH-26, GLYCERYL CAPRYLATE, TOCOPHERYL ACETATE, SEA WATER, FRAGRANCE, DISODIUM EDTA, NIACINAMIDE, AMYLODEXTRIN, CALCIUM PANTOTHENATE, MALTODEXTRIN, PHENOXYETHANOL, ROYAL JELLY EXTRACT, SALICYLIC ACID, SODIUM ASCORBYL PHOSPHATE, YELLOW 6 (CI 15985), PYRIDOXINE HCl, YELLOW 5 (CI 19140), SILICA

* Absorbed well, left a smooth feeling on skin

* Mayyybe felt like could have started pilling a bit?

* Felt moisturizing but not heavy

* Lots of siliconey ingredients that make the smooth feeling on skin

* Actually bee venom is not the fourth ingredient, a bit misleading marketing, I saw someone uploaded a photo of the real ingredients on the tub

* Still, I wouldn't mind using more

Nature Republic Ginseng Royal Silk Watery Cream

* Tried 1 sample

* Clear gel, no scrub particles, not thick but not watery either

* Quite neutral light scent

* Not a super peeling effect, gentle in my opinion

* Doesn't foam or pill much when used

* Not a super smooth skin afterwards but I did notice my skin did feel a bit smoother and cleaner, good everyday light peel maybe?

* Absorbs well, maybe even better than Blithe Energy Roots Essence...? But sticky if layered

* Fresh light scent

* Feels somewhat hydrating but nothing out of ordinary

* I did get one irritated spot under my eye but can't say if related to this essence as I do tend to get them from time to time (from sunscreens or exfoliants or anything ...)

* Tried 2 samples

* Clear watery essence

* Fresh light scent

* Felt very hydrating to me, more than essences usually, more hydrating than Blithe Nourishing Beans Essence?

* Absorbed well

* Little seemed to go a long way, the sample had 2 ml and I got 5 uses out of it

* I think I may prefer this Energy Roots Essence over Nourishing Beans Essence but it is very difficult to compare over a few samples! They both are fine essences however!

The Saem See&Saw AC Control Cream REFORMULATED

Ingredients:

??? Salicylic acid, Hyaluronic acid, Echinacea, Chamomile, Aloe, Bamboo, Centella asiatica

* Tried 1 sample

* Consistency is gel cream

* Absorbed well into no product feel on skin

* Very light, but moisturizing at the same time

* Light scent, can't remember properly - maybe soapy?

* I believe this cream still exists with the same name but it's been reformulated

* I liked this (gel) cream a lot and probably could have purchased if the formula was still the same.

It's Skin, Power 10 Formula, WH Effector with Arbutin

Ingredients:

Water, butylene glycol, glycerin, arbutin, chamomilla recutita (matricaria) flower extract, dipropylene glycol, ethyl hexanediol, carbomer, ethylhexylglycerin, polyglutamic acid, triethanolamine, disodium edta, fragrance, glycyrrhiza glabra (licorice) root extract.

* Tried 2 samples

* Very hydrating

* Light fresh scent, neutral

* Clear watery essence

* Absorbed well, left skin hydrated but almost like no product feel

* I really liked this essence overall and went to search for it, but it seems to be out of stock or not available in most places - I wonder if it's discontinued or just some stocking issues?

* My favorite out of these three Its Skin Power Formula samples I tried

It’s Skin Power 10 Formula Syn-ake

Ingredients:

Water, Butylene Glycol, Alcohol Denat., Glycerin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Dipeptide Diaminobutyroyl Benzylamide Diacetate, Peg-11 Methyl Ether Dimethicone, Neopentyl Glycol Diheptanoate, Opuntia Tuna Fruit Extract, Adansonia Digitata Seed Extract, Lactobacillus Ferment, Saccharomyces Ferment Filtrate, Malt Extract, Caprylyl Glycol, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Peg-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Ppg-26-Buteth-26, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Fragrance, Carbomer, Triethanolamine, Porphyra Yezoensis Extract, Trehalose, Adenosine, Caramel, Disodium Edta, Panthenol

* Tried 2 samples

* Watery gel essence, a lot thicker than water like WH Effector

* Leaves skin slightly tacky but didn't pill or anything

* Perfume scent that doesn't linger

* Skin was a bit itchy for a while

* Includes ferments, esp. saccharomyces that I do try to avoid but thought how bad can a few samples make my skin, let's try!

It’s Skin Power 10 Formula YE Effector With Yeast Polypeptides

Ingredients:

Water, butylene glycol, glycerin, polyglutamic acid, pseudoalteromonas ferment extract, saccharomyces polypeptides, triethanolamine, carbomer, methylparaben, chlorphenesin, fragrance, disodium EDTA.

Ohui The First Ampoule Advanced

Ingredients:

???

* Tried 2 samples

* Clear watery gel essence consistency, contains tiny golden bits

* Light scent, almost non existent, a bit soapy

* Absorbed well

* Very moisturizing

* I believe this product has been already reformulated and the name name is The First Ampoule Advanced Geniture? Seems to be expensive product and brand! Very pretty bottles though. Wouldn't mind trying more from them.

Skinfood Tomato Whitening Cream

Ingredients:

??? Arbutin

* Tried 1 sample

* Light sweet pleasant scent

* Absorbed very well into skin

* Nice light cream emulsion consistency

* Discontinued, I think this formula had arbutin and Skinfood's new Tomato Brightening Cream has niacinamide

* Could have considered purchasing if still available!

* It's been a while, but I do think the cream was pleasant to apply with no memorable scent

* I also remember that it was surprisingly strong! I thought that if this is only 5% glycolic acid, I have no business messing around with glycolics anymore - of course all the glycolic acid formulas are different

* Light pleasant scent (almost green?), doesn't linger

* Creamy white cream, not butter thick, easy to apply

* Leaves skin tacky

* Feels moisturizing

* I see this more as a night time moisturizer

* I don't think my skin liked this very much, a bit too oily/heavy/clogging

The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Foaming Cleanser

Ingredients: found two different ones from different websites?

Water, Myristic Acid, Glycerin, Potassium Hydroxide, Stearic Acid, Glycol Distearate, Lauric Acid, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Cocamide MEA, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract (1000ppm), Saponaria Officinalis Leaf Extract, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil (10ppm), Titanium Dioxide, Sodium Chloride, Divinyldimethicone/Dimethicone Copolymer, C12-13 Pareth-23, C12-13 Pareth-3, Hexylene Glycol, Disodium EDTA, CI 42090, CI 19140, CI 14700, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Fragrance

Potassium Hydroxide, Stearic Acid, Glycol Distearate, Lauric Acid, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Cocamide Mea, Glyceryl Stearate, Peg-100 Stearate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, Saponaria Officinalis Leaf Extract, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, Titanium Dioxide, Sodium Chloride, Divinyldimethicone/Dimethicone Copolymer, C12-13 Pareth-23, C12-13 Pareth-3, Butylene Glycol, Hexylene Glycol, Disodium Edta, Blue 1 (Ci 42090), Yellow 5( Ci 19140), Red 4 (Ci 14700), Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Parfum/Fragrance, Hexyl Cinnamal, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde

* Tried 1 sample

* Quite strong scent

* Pearly white cream

* Felt soft on skin at first... then slimy, then very squeaky. Suprisingly difficult to wash off skin.

* Felt very drying actually! Weird because that random Tonymoly Pokemon Foam Cleanser sample
 didn't feel as drying even though it is a similar foaming cleanser. Not sure of the ingredients because found different ones from different websites.
