I Want a Pink Skincare Routine!

Pink is one of my favorite colors, definitely. I appreciate cute packaging and if I had to choose between two similar products, I probably would go for the one with prettier packaging and color (preferably pink). Still, I can't buy everything cute and my skin (and wallet) is way too picky.

But nothing stops me from dreaming while browsing skincare. Especially finding smaller brands with quirky designs is rewarding.

Pink as a color is a gentle, comforting one, usually used for hydrating and moisturizing products for a dry and sensitive skin. I guess that's a reason I rarely have pink products because my combo skin type has forced me (in my mind) go for the purifying products, usually green or blue in color, or other more primary or dynamic color like orange. It seems it's necessary to make products that target problem skin as aggressive as possible for some reason.

Please let me know if I've missed something incredibly cute and pink that I should know about! :)

Disclaimer: I don't own any of the following pictures. They are promo pictures and property of the mentioned brands. I'm not gaining anything by showcasing them except happiness because of the cuteness.

Indy Beauty

Everything is packaged in peachy pink. A bit of a modern clean pharmacy look with sleek packaging, printed with very eye catching big slogans that make the look at the same more relatable but also cheapens it a bit. Some of the products contain coconut oil in case you're avoiding it like I am (in face products). All products are vegan and made in Sweden.

Choice Finland

Everything is packaged in pink and the lace pattern is to die for. I would design something similar myself as well! There's something very timeless and retro at the same time in the design. All the products are vegan as well and made in Finland. I really want to try the Rosehip Balm, both for the cute packaging and ingredients.

Lumene

Finnish brand Lumene doesn't do much skincare in pink but these ones that they do, are exceptionally cute for quite affordable skincare. I like the simple design of them and somehow the font choice is really pleasant. I just feel like they are not for my skin type.

Pixi

Pixi's products have this young, trendy girly look that feels a bit of retro as well, maybe it's the bottle shapes/designs. The combination of mint and pink is very dreamy. I do like it how Pixi has many product lines and everything is designed to look cohesive and recognizable.

Caudalie

Caudalie has products in different shades of pink, maybe inspired by the grapes. There is something very effortless about the designs and they are not too girly nor very old, they feel fresh. Anyway my opinion is probably also swayed by Moisturizing Sorbet that I love (both the cream and packaging, it's the light pink tube).

Lancome

Lancome's cute products packaged in pink with rose motifs are a good example, how such a simple classic idea works so well time after time. You rarely go wrong with flowers + cute color. The bottle shapes are sleek and stylish as well. Exactly the type I would impulse buy if I had a weak moment.

Glossier

I've heard a lot about Glossier and its "millennial" look. As it happens I'm an early millennial and I do like the designs! They are somewhere there between a pharmacy and trendy look, that looks almost underdesigned. The shower product designs with red and beige however look actually very new, cartoonish and expensive, even. I would buy them. Maybe it's a good thing Glossier is not available in my country!

Cow Brand Mutenka

This old Japanese brand has a weird name, but it is apparently a straight reference to cows and steady business model. The look of these products is just so sweet and simple, almost like they would belong to Barbie dolls! I'm probably going to try the cleansing oil one day.

Whamisa

I must admit, Whamisa's aesthetics work so well with the brand message of all natural skincare. The product designs are again very effortless, soft, almost like no-design look, "they just ended up looking like this". Very clever. Yeah, I would absolutely impulse buy in a weak moment based on packaging alone, and I almost have, but I'm a bit afraid of fermented skincare.

#17VDerma

The brand has only two products, these adorable, pink paw shaped peeling pads and sheet masks. I must admit this is a cuteness overload and I might have to order them just based on the packaging. Cats + cute color is another thing that always works! #17VDerma is a Korean brand and also vegan.

Blossom Jeju

Now, this is elegant and pretty. Perhaps it's the round shape of the bottles and the flower lace pattern, again this something I would go for if designing packaging. It's not too try hard and has an airy quality to it. Blossom Jeju is a Korean brand and inspired by pink camellia flowers that grow in Jeju Island.

Merbliss

The brand's whole concept is quite intriguing, a wedding theme?! It just can't get any girlier than this. All of their products are cute even though I get a feeling they are aimed for teenagers dreaming of their wedding in the future. I am still attracted to them, Merbliss seems like they're not taking the product design too seriously (even though they are because skincare is competetive business!).

Benton

Benton's Cacao series is very pleasing to the eye. It looks comforting and stylish, the design looks effortless. Almost bought the toner because of the look, but I'm unsure how they would work for my skin.

Nivea

Nivea's soothing series looks very fresh and trendy and even though they use a bit weird color combinations, that actually works. The packaging is too busy for my taste, but it is very approachable. I've used Nivea's products earlier and they were a safe choice for my skin so that probably affects my view. I am tempted to try these ones as well, they are affordable and cute, especially when put together like in this picture.

Dr. Barbara Sturm

Obviously, this series has been designed for kids. But it's just so adorable I couldn't pass it by! The pink is very light and peachy and the packaging design very clean, very mature and balanced despite the animals. I could easily pick up some kids' cream to use if it's packaged like this!

 L'Oreal

Rare flowers series looks very attractive, I really like this shade of pink and the angular shapes of the bottles. They have quite a timeless look to them, even though I think the design for texts needs a bit work, but I do like the font choices. Rare flowers is such a clever name because it creates the feeling of luxury! I have been tempted to try these products because of the packaging many times.

Louis Widmer

Now we have gone fully baby pink! Everything looks very cohesive; simply and well designed pharmacy products. Maybe a bit boring even, borderline babyish, looks a bit old fashioned? White and pink only as a color combination can be a difficult one to pull off. I like the round bottle shapes a lot, the toner is very much calling for me. Louis Widmer is made in Switzerland. Funny thing, when someone mentions "pharmacy cosmetics" I think of Louis Widmer first, not the French brands. Maybe my mom or other relatives used these products when I was little?

Aco

Aco is a Scandinavian pharmacy brand founded in Sweden. I feel like the designs are at the same time clean and functional but still a bit messy - maybe because the logo is dark compared to bright pink product names and they are about the same font size. The warm pink color is very inviting and the bottle shapes are pleasantly plump looking.

Lumene Invisible Illumination Instant Illuminizer Valopisarat Midnight Sun 15 ml Review

Ingredients:

AQUA (WATER), CYCLOPENTASILOXANE, ISODODECANE, LAURYL PEG-10 TRIS(TRIMETHYLSILOXY)SILYLETHYL DIMETHICONE, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, DIMETHICONE, MICA, GLYCERIN, RUBUS CHAMAEMORUS (CLOUDBERRY) SEED EXTRACT, PHENOXYETHANOL, POLYSILICONE-11, DISTEARDIMONIUM HECTORITE, POLYGLYCERYL-3 DIISOSTEARATE, MAGNESIUM SULFATE, SODIUM CHLORIDE, PROPANEDIOL, PROPYLENE CARBONATE, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, TRIETHOXYCAPRYLYLSILANE, HYDROXYPROPYL CYCLODEXTRIN, PALMITOYL TRIPEPTIDE-38, BENZYL SALICYLATE, LINALOOL, CITRONELLOL, PARFUM (FRAGRANCE), (CI 77891) TITANIUM DIOXIDE, (CI 77491) IRON OXIDES.

I try to mark the sunscreen ingredients in red and other possible irritants in lilac. Ingredients thought to be good and useful for skin I mark green.  Learning as I go, google is my friend etc...

Thoughts:

Expensive for a small bottle!

The fragrance is quite strong and lingers for a while, however it's not really an unpleasant scent.

The bottle neck seems to get messy easily, kinda disgusting and a waste of product. Also I wonder how you get everything out of the bottle?

- If you're looking for a real strobe highlighter, this is probably not the answer.

- You really have to remember to shake the bottle, otherwise the liquid comes out separated.

Maybe even a bit "oily" consistency. I can't wear this anywhere near my eyes, on my eyelids, on brow bone to bring light there, as it immediately melts. On cheeks it's ok.

No photo does justice to the colour and shimmer Lumene's Midnight Sun has. It's just beautiful. Perfect shade between rose gold, gold and pink. I just want to spread it all over my body!

At the same time natural but pigmented, doesn't look clowny or too out of place.

Despite being 15 ml bottle, lasts a long time if used in moderation.

The packaging is so pretty, instantly caught my attention (what do you mean, obsessed with pink?). Also I appreciate the plastic cover so I know no one has opened the product in store.

Easy to apply and blend with fingers. You don't have to know what you're doing.

* My sister really went and got me this highlighter as a christmas present after I mentioned it to her months ago! Our conversation was something about unnecessary luxury products that we just don't want to buy ourselves because our rational side keeps us in check.

I also must say that Lumene has some ridiculous unnecessary long names for their product lines. I'm always so confused when I start to look up something.

Also I'm not very experienced with highlighters. Just recently gotten into the glow hype.

Price:

29,90 € / 15 ml

Bought from:

Got as a gift.

Buy again?

Probably not.

Worth the money?

The color is really pretty and on point but let's be honest, if I'm going to buy Lumene's Illuminizer again, there must be a deep discount to entice me! There is a real highlighter war going on out there and you can find really good ones for cheap so I don't see much other value here than luxury. Not that luxury is a bad thing. I like luxury.

Breaking My No-Buy

I've been on a no-buy for a while. I want to save money and also be able to actually use all of my skincare products before they go bad.

However I did break my no-buy earlier because of Lumene's Aerating Gel Mask (on sale).

And now I just went completely crazy and shopped more Lumene (it was - 40 %!), Essence and Colourpop. I've never tried anything from Colourpop before and Disney Villains Collection is way too attractive to skip, Hades is my favourite (ordered products still on their way). Garnier's Micellar Cleansing Gel Wash was on sale too so I took back-ups. Also ordered back-ups of Tosowoong's Apricot Seed Oil Cleansing Oils as I'm unsure what's going on with them. Suddenly they've disappeared from almost all sellers - are they being discontinued? If so, I'm very sad. The same thing with Neulii, I just tried their BHA PHA 5.5 Peeling Pad sample and quite liked it, now it feels like the whole brand has vanished. So I ordered one tub just in case to confirm if it really makes my sudden acne bursts disappear almost overnight.

Strangely I regret nothing. Or maybe I do, the eyeliner pen from Essence. It's certainly not longlasting.

Also a bit of The Ordidary basics shopping and retinol and pycnogenol that I haven't tried.

While trying to decide which Lumene foundations and shades to get, I swatched some on my hand at the same time. Looking at this swatch makes me really question myself and my ability to shade match. Lumene's CC Cream in light has been my go-to for years. Have they updated the shades? Why is it so... light? However out of all these shades it looks the dirtiest shade of beige that suits me the best. Maybe I have gotten away with it because I use so light layers of foundation. Maybe the lighting in the store just makes everything look different on my red blotchy skin.

Instant Glow Beauty Serum and Fresh Skin Tint are both more like tints, very sheer and light on skin. Still only 3 universal shades are not enough, I think I'm between the medium and light. I tried a sample of Beauty Serum in medium on my face and it was a bit too dark, the light one disappeared in seamlessly, even though it looks like the lightest out of these. However even the medium ones didn't pull orange on me so that's a win.

Peeling Pad Sample Reviews

Peeling pads are quite a trend right now (or maybe I just realized that they exist). There are so many different kinds to choose from, from a real peel to hydrating ones. I'm not sure which one out of these three I like the most. Using something once doesn't tell that much after all. For brightening, Banila Co's pads are probably the best choice. For hydration, Purito's pads are excellent. For a gentle acne-fighting peel Neulii's pads are nice. Non of them gave me irritation and all of them delivered results and I must say I'm very surprised about that. If I had more pads right now, I'd probably want to wipe my face with Neulii again to try to get rid of the rest of my sudden forehead acne. (I've been sick for a month and my skin is extra sensitive and whacky at the moment.)

BANILA CO Hi Bye Vita Peel Clear Pad

Ingredients:

Water, Glycerin, Propanediol, PEG/PPG-17/6 Copolymer, Butylene Glycol, Urea, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Cellulose Gum, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Fruit Extract, Alcohol, Disodium EDTA, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil, Sodium Hyaluronate, Caprylhydroxamic Acid, Thiamine HCl, Riboflavin, Pantothenic Acid, Folic Acid, Niacin, Carnitine HCl, Tocopherol, Ascorbic Acid, Retinyl Palmitate, Biotin, Sodium Lactate, Citric Acid, Sodium PCA, Lactic Acid, Malic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Fruit Extract, Pyruvic Acid, Cyanocobalamin, Glyceryl Linoleate, Actinidia Chinensis (Kiwi) Fruit Extract, Glyceryl Arachidonate, Glyceryl Linolenate, Rubus Idaeus (Raspberry) Fruit Extract, Tartaric Acid.

Thoughts:

* I rather liked Banila Co's peeling pad! Considering this is the first peeling pad ever that I've tried.

* Skin was immediately feeling smoother and evened out, almost like it calmed down. Looked better the next day too, I had the inner glow.

* I can feel ever so slight tingling on my skin and the peeling side of the pad did feel a bit rough, but overall I think the peeling effect is gentle. The pad does make skin a bit dry too on my cheeks. The cotton side of the pad was super smooth and lovely. I didn't notice any scent.

* Hi Bye Vita Peel Clear Pad tub (40 pads) costs on Ebay from 15 € to 27 €.

Neulii BHA PHA 5.5 Peeling Pad

Ingredients:

Water, Butylene Glycol, Gluconolactone, Glycerin, Tromethamine, 1,2-Hexanediol, Betaine Salicylate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Leaf Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Aspalanthus Linearis Extract, Euterpe Oleracea Fruit Extract, Aronia Melanocarpa Fruit Extract, Methyl Cyclodextrin, 7-Dehydrocholesterol, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Disodium EDTA.

Thoughts:

* The pad wasn't embossed on either side but felt softer and higher quality than Purito for example. The pad was absolutely soaked in essence, it was the most moist out of these three samples. I didn't notice any scent.

* Skin looked smoother right after using the pad, but I don't think it had an immediate calming or brightening effect. I thought I felt a bit of tingling for a second but the peeling effect is gentle. The pad's essence left a sticky film feeling on the skin afterwards. When I looked into the mirror a couple of hours after using the pad, all the usual facial redness was gone, and the next day my forehead acne had greatly improved.

* BHA PHA 5.5 Peeling Pad tub (70 pads) costs on Ebay from 15 € to 20 €.

Purito Centella Green Level All in One Mild Pad

Ingredients:

Water, Centella Asiatica Extract, Dipropylene Glycol, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Betaine, Betaine Salicylate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Arginine, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Allantoin, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Panthenol, Polyglyceryl-10 Oleate, Myristyl Myristate, Caprylyl Glycol, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Disodium EDTA, Melaleuca Quinquenervia Oil, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Asiaticoside, Asiatic Acid, Madecassic Acid.

Thoughts:

* There were actually 2 pads in the sample sachet. The pads were more like regular cotton pads than a thicker peeling pad (like Banila Co). The other side was embossed, the other one wasn't, but both sides felt the same on my skin. Not rough at all but not that soft either. There was ever so slight neutral scent but disappeared immediately when I actually tried to smell it.

* My skin felt afterwards very hydrated and calmed down. Almost forgot to put moisturizer! No brightening effect or the same smooth feeling as with Banila Co but also no tingling or dryness. I can see why they say that these pads can be used daily.

* Centella Green Level All in One Mild Pad tub (70 pads) costs on Ebay from 16 € to 20 €.

Beware of Fakes, Think Before You Buy

I went through my old make up pouch and found some things that I bought when I was a teenager and found Ebay for the first time. And everything was so cheap. Like I could get a mascara, eyeliner, blusher, etc for 1 €??? I didn't really look where they were shipped from, either. China, fine. I'll sort everything by price. I'm saving so much by getting the cheapest deals!

... Of course I'm now very appalled by my thought process. And of course not everything from China is bad and fakes are everywhere.  But it is very likely, that a fake MAC blusher you order for 1  €, is not going to be tested or made from quality ingredients. In fact, quite often the cheap fake deals are made from whatever they have at hand (quite toxic stuff) and not in a hygienic environment.

That being said I never got an allergic reaction despite trying different cosmetics from Ebay even though I did have several mascaras, powders, blushers and eyeliners. Never tried any lipsticks. One BB cream gave me horrible cystic acne though and I threw it away, not understanding all the hype about BB creams. That BB cream I had found by searching "bb cream" and sorted everything by price, surprise...

I am embarrassed now but I did not know better back in time. That's why I want to write this blog text, in case there still are people who haven't thought about the origins of their cosmetics:

* Always check and double check the item you're buying, the website you're buying from, the seller ratings.

* Is the deal too good to be true?

* If something seems dodgy, shop somewhere else.

* Google the Ebay sellers you're buying from. Are you buying Korean/Japanese cosmetics? Is the seller shipping from Korea/Japan? When you receive the package, check the shipping label.

* Is there something wrong with the packaging of the product? Does it smell weird? Is something missing? Google what the packaging should look like.

* Can you find the product's ingredient list anywhere? Do they mention any ingredients? Does the packaging have INCI?

* Is it some general brand, no brand name that you could google? Does the brand have their own website? Is there any contact information?

* Are there reviews of the brand/website/products? Is the person who's reviewing them reputable?

* Do you want to risk for example an eye infection that could lead to being blind?

* If it's about money (like for me it was), are there other affordable options?

* Do you absolutely must get 3 blushers off Ebay or 1 from a store by a reputable brand?

Skin and health are important. The teenager me just didn't quite understand.

In case you're interested, here are the fake MAC blushers I found. Especially the orange shade was something I enjoyed. It was so bright and out there and looked good with copper dyed hair. I'd like to find something similar again. (As these are going to trash!)
