The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil 30 ml Review

Ingredients:

Rosa Canina Seed Oil.

I try to mark the sunscreen ingredients in red and other possible irritants in lilac. Ingredients thought to be good and useful for skin I mark green.  Learning as I go, google is my friend etc...

Thoughts:

I did get a couple of whiteheads after some days of using the rose hip oil but they disappeared in two days (connected or not?)

I think I'm developing tiny, the tiniest blackheads on my cheeks and chin? But it makes those pores look smaller than what they used to be, hmm

My skin is a bit more sensitive to picking (I KNOW I'm not supposed to pick on my skin but... sometimes life is hard) and even trying to gently squeeze a small whitehead makes the spot/skin around is red and swollen for quite a while compared to before. Then again it has put me off picking the small things because the immediate consequence is so long and punishing

- The application can be a bit messy because the oil is rather liquid and is packaged in a dropper bottle

- I read that rose hip seed oil is not very stable and can go rancid quickly?

Organic

Smells like dry hay and barn... brings back childhood memories of the countryside, very nostalgic! Also the smell disappears quickly. Can't believe some people think it stinks, to me this smell is summer and freedom.

Dries/absorbs faster than The Ordinary's Squalane, in a couple of minutes

Didn't think my skin could be any softer/clearer after adding squalane, but when mixing the oils and putting a couple of drops squalane and a couple rose hip, I can still see/feel difference to better! Quite honestly I'm doubting my own senses, maybe I'm just imagining?

The bottle lasts for a while, because a little goes a long way (if you don't slather it on like I do)

Even if I apply too much rose hip oil, it still absorbs (= 8 drops about. Hey I have to test these things because I'm curious! My skin could probably absorb even more but would it be beneficial?) EDIT in Jan-Feb 2018: Now that I'm half through my second rose hip oil bottle, I start to notice that I need less drops. 8 was a "standard" that I used both AM and PM, and everything absorbed (how crazy is that) but now I'm fine with 4 drops. I think my skin is getting better! It's not only thanks to rose hip oil, but I think overall my routine works.

Pores look smaller and scars are fading surprisingly fast BUT they did start fading after adding squalane anyway (and LJH TTO90 Essence once in a while but idk if it matters because I tested it briefly before too and didn't notice anything) and simplifying my routine down but the significant difference was after squalane and now even more after rosehip

+ Gives that "inner glow" for skin after a while (1-2 weeks?) as opposed to squalane that gives the "immediate glow" that is more on top of the skin

+ Moisturizing/Hydrating, more than squalane

* I still can't believe how much I like oils, they just feel so luxurious to me and I'm hooked! I just read about them and different oils have different qualities and almost anything can be made into oil... like cucumber oil, anyone?? Definitely keeping my eyes open and buying decently priced ones everytime I bump into them!

The rose hip seed oil is yellow and very liquidy, but not quite so liquid as squalane. Or at least it wasn't as messy to apply with the dropper. The yellow color disappears soon when you put it on the skin.

Even though squalane and rosehip oil are both considered dry oils, I still think rosehip is truly dry compared to squalane and I would recommend it if you dislike how oils usually feel

Rosehip oil contains more linoleic acid than oleic acid. I read somewhere that acne prone skins usually lack linoleic acid and adding it might help because when skin is in balance it's not so sensitive to breakouts. Might be true, at least my skin looks more clear. But my skin could also have been partly just dehydrated or lacking oil in general because already adding squalane helped a lot!

I don't know what I would do if I had to choose only squalane or rose hip oil, I think they both are beneficial to me at the moment! I will update if the situation changes.

* My review: The Ordinary Squalane.

Buy again?

More yes than maybe! EDIT: I have repurchased, and going to purchase again, I'm completely in love.

Worth the money?

Yes. It seems oils are the acne and softness medicine to me during the winter and after being so hard and experimental with my skin all year. If the good results continue, I think both oils I've tried are dirt cheap compared to how much they help.

Kicks Beauty Skin Treat Virgin Olive Oil Foot Treatment 100 ml Review

Ingredients:

AQUA, CANOLA OIL, GLYCERIN, UREA, CETYL ALCOHOL, STEARIC ACID, OLEA EUROPAEA FRUIT OIL (OLIVE OIL)*, GLYCERYL STEARATE, PEG-100 STEARATE, BUTYROSPERMUM PARKII BUTTER (SHEA BUTTER)*, MACADAMIA TERNIFOLIA SEED OIL (MACADAMIA NUT OIL)*, PHENOXYETANOL, PRUNUS ARMENIACA KERNEL OIL, LACTIC ACID, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, TOCOPHEROL, SODIUM HYDROXIDE, PARFUM. * ingredients comply with Fairtrade Standards, total 5%

I try to mark the sunscreen ingredients in red and other possible irritants in lilac. Ingredients thought to be good and useful for skin I mark green.  Learning as I go, google is my friend etc...

Thoughts:

??? I don't think there's anything negative! Maybe the fact that they advertise fairtrade ingredients and there's very small amount of them in the end? But they are open about it and they use fairtrade ingredients and it's already so much more than not using them at all

Absorbs rather quickly, in a minute or two

Quite light cream considering it's meant for feet

Hands feel so soft immediately and for a long time after application, when I put this in the evening my hands were still moisturized in the morning

Leaves a bit of sheen, healthy glow

My mom actually compared this cream to some more luxurious aloe propolis 30 € hand cream she had been using sparingly

Smells slightly herby, green, like some pleasant everyday perfume, not strong at all in my opinion and most of it fades quickly however it doesn't completely disappear and if you bring your hands closer to your face you can smell it later

Flip cap, easy to use tube

+ Between the cap and tube there was a foil to keep the product fresh

* I can't believe some random Kicks product is this nice, I just bought it on a whim because my mom needed a new hand cream and she had mentioned shea butter and I took a look at the ingredients and decided that it doesn't matter if it's meant for feet or hands

* I do want to try other Kicks Beauty products too, based on the quality of this cream

Didn't have time to test this foot cream to my feet but I could imagine it's just as good as for hands!

Price:

About 10 € / 100 ml

Buy again?

Yes!

Worth the money?

Yes! Versatile cream for hands, feet, body... nothing wrong with Kicks Beauty Skin Treat Virgin Olive Oil Foot Treatment.

Thoughts:

The jar is huge and not very hygienic, it will last ages (probably 1-2 years?) and you have to keep opening the lid and dipping the spatula in, also it must be difficult to get the product from the very bottom when it's ending

I wouldn't say this is "all in one" as it's not enough on its own to replace the essence-serum step and certainly not enough as a moisturizer

Almost everytime I have put Honey AIO for night, next day I have a couple very small whiteheads, from 1-5, is it somehow related, I don't know? I skipped the AIO for a week and when used again, 4 small whiteheads. Nothing big or irritated but annoying! Is it causing them or just bringing something to surface that is already there?

- This product piqued my interest because so many report it helping the redness but I don't think it particularly helps mine

- Might leave a sticky feeling if you don't put a cream on top but I don't think the stickiness is even that bad

I actually think this ampoule has a bit of brightening effect on my face

Feels soothing immediately after I put it on

Feels moisturizing/hydrating too, but not as much as Scinic's Snail AIO

Smells actually really nice: very faint natural honey

Absorbs well (if I don't put a lot)

Pleasant product overall if we ignore how stupid the jar is

Lots of "good" ingredients based on the list but we don't really know how much they actually have put them there and if something has been diluted etc because Korean ingredient lists aren't the same as in Europe (Scinic says it's 90% honey extract)

+ Very inexpensive

+ No irritation, no rash

* I would like to love this product and rave about it and be giddy how cheap it is for being such a pleasant multitasker... but in the end, I think there is something that is causing those whiteheads or bringing them to surface, BUT I've heard that only exfoliating products should do that and otherwise it's irritation. Or maybe it just didn't play well with my other products?

I prefer to have my products in smaller size because for me it's a challenge to finish them anyway and I'd like to do it in a reasonable time (I try to aim to 3-6 months but I'll be happy with anything under the best before date!) and if I like it, get a new fresh product

I will use the Scinic Honey AIO from now on as a neck and decollete "cream", I suppose, and if there is some emergency (but what that could be?) I will put it on my face as well. If I start getting whiteheads on my neck then it will become my hand and feet moisturizer...

Also I will look into decanting it to some other bottle so that it's actually usable but the sad thing is, I don't feel like I'm in a hurry to do that which means it's not very exciting product after the initial high!

I am looking forward to trying some other propolis and honey products as I don't think they are the reason for whiteheads but if they are I guess I will find out later

Price:

USD 17.83 / 250 ml

Buy again?

No.

Worth the money?

Well, the jar is huge, the product is pleasant and seems to be doing what it promises to do (moisturizing, soft skin, a bit brightening which is probably what they mean by the writing on the package: "hydro-radiant") so I definitely recommend trying it but get a decant if you can! Also have some sort of plan B in case you feel like it's not quite living up to the expectations and hype. I think it suits all skin types.

The Ordinary 100% Plant-Derived Squalane 30 ml Review

Ingredients:

Squalane.

I try to mark the sunscreen ingredients in red and other possible irritants in lilac. Ingredients thought to be good and useful for skin I mark green.  Learning as I go, google is my friend etc...

Thoughts:

The oil does sit on my face, especially if I put too much, it doesn't really absorb and isn't a "dry" oil

Yeah, the dropper bottle is annoying with a watery product like this, the dropper drips stuff all over if I'm not careful and even if I am!

I kind of have to put some cream on top to balance the oiliness, is it good or bad? When I put the cream I can still a bit feel/see the oil through but I think it's because I do put about 3 drops

First time I put the oil on my whole face after patch testing for couple of days on my cheek, I put 4 drops (it felt like a lot...) and it took a couple of seconds and it had disappeared! I decided to put more just because, so a couple of drops more and my skin feels so, so soft and nice! But the same absorption miracle hasn't happened again and now I put about 3 drops

I'm not sure if this oil helped my hormonal acne or not but I did not get my usual spots when I started using this for a week before and during period

My skin looks more radiant, what is this sorcery, is it just because it leaves some hmm, shine? My face doesn't look oily, just more shiny but not in the "I sweat buckets" way but my perception could be skewed because I don't have oily skin anymore, it disappeared couple of years back so maybe I just feel different?

The bottle is brown to protect the oil from light

A little goes a long way as with all oil products (except if you are me apparently, coating myself in oil...) EDIT 1,5 months later: I used 3/4 of the bottle in about 3 months. So I think 30 ml lasts about 4 months, even if you go a little crazy because of winter dryness and other skin catastrophes. With normal use (like a drop or two in day) you can pretty much double the time.

Can't detect any smell

Good introductory product to oils

+ When I did after cleansing TO Niacinamide + TO Squalane + Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisturizer (lol) + Etude House Sunscreen + Lumene CC Cream + CC Powder, I didn't notice any pilling or blotchiness with my makeup during the whole day, 10 hrs, which is impressive, also skin looked bright and natural all day

Can be used during the day or night, mixed with a lot of other stuff

I'm not sure, but I think after starting with this oil, my cystic acne (yes I overexfoliated and got cystic bumps on my chin) surfaced more and is going away faster?

Makes my face feel a lot softer, did I say that already?

* Woah, first oil cleansing, then straight up putting oil on MY face? What is this universe, who am I? All my life, avoiding oil, cursing my oily combo skin (but hey it's not oily anymore, I'm getting old, hurray?)

The Ordinary's website says that unlike other plant oils, squalane is completely non-greasy and I agree, I don't feel that it's greasy even though I put it a lot on my face, but it is still an oil and has oily feel and stays on face like oil, just a warning

I do like how oils feel... I had a moment of love when I tried Tonymoly's BCDation Multi Use Sun Oil SPF 50+ PA++++ but it gave me bumps after a while, I gave it away and I still sometimes think that maybe if I had tried it one more time and it would've been okay after all...

I'm very excited to see how the longtime use of squalane affects my skin, now it's been only two weeks and I did start using it during the worst possible time (a little overexfoliation, some cystic acne, period) and I'm positively surprised so far!

I also bought The Ordinary's Rose Hip Seed Oil and I'm excited to try it too at some point. I'm obviously going through all TO products because finally I can test my skin sensitivities and reactions with products that I can afford! No guilty feelings if I have to toss them.

As you can see, squalane is more runny/watery than rose hip oil and completely clear.

Price:

7,20 € / 30 ml

Bought from:

The Ordinary website

Buy again?

Maybe-yes. Depends if I like rose hip seed oil or some other oil better in the future but even if I do I wouldn't mind having a back up of squalane too! EDIT 1,5 months later: I actually repurchased squalane already. I had about 1/4 left in the first bottle and gave it to my sister.

Worth the money?

Yes! I don't know why it works and for what kind of skin, but my normal combination (winter dry) skin has really enjoyed it. Worth trying if you've wanted to explore oils. Very inexpensive, hydrating, versatile.

I try to mark the sunscreen ingredients in red and other possible irritants in lilac. Ingredients thought to be good and useful for skin I mark green.  Learning as I go, google is my friend etc...

Thoughts:

Sad things first, I have started to wonder if these products actually break me out a little: I feel like I always have more bumps etc going on when I wear make up. I never noticed before, just now that I have switched so many of my products around and my skin is generally in a better shape

I don't think the cc cream holds very well on my nose area that is the oiliest, even with powder, after about 4-6 hrs it starts to slide a bit, possibly gets blotchy, depending on the day or sweating

The tube gets messy because the nozzle seems to leak the product inside the lid no matter how you store it, gets worse the older the product is (maybe the cream is getting expired and changes form to even more liquid?)

- I don't think the cream can be layered much, the end result gets a bit weird

- They are not for hiding lots of skin imperfections or anything, they just make the skin more smooth and even

I don't think they offer any skincare benefits, not that I have noticed at least: like I said, my skin looks and feels better when I haven't worn them. Difference is very noticeable after a week of having them on for 10-12 hrs every day, or not!

I think the color of cc cream is spot on for me, yellow based

The consistency of it is quite light, spreads well, blends well to skin, no need to spend a long time fussing with it

Because it blends so well, I can just put it on my T-area or just a little on my nose and it doesn't show or look bad, but also a full face doesn't look cakey or heavy

The result is quite natural with this cc cream, not shiny, but not powdery

The cc powder is very natural too, actually it's even more of a winner for me than the cream in some sense: it works on its own or with any primer or foundation, the color is very universal and it goes for both warm and cool undertones

The powder can give a very natural look when applied with a brush, but still matteish; with a sponge/brush combination you get a very matte finish that has surprisingly good lasting power!

I actually use the powder to prime and set my eye make up, too, and it hasn't failed me yet (well, not badly, I've had smudging after 10 hrs when I've had a long day)

+ The powder and cream do not irritate or dry my skin, also they don't make me oily

+ CC Cream has some SPF

+ They last a long, long time, powder maybe half a year and the cream a year? Yes, I've become lazy with make-up but I'll try to be better in the future

+ Again the same old mantra: easily available everywhere and doesn't cost an arm and a leg

* I included both the old and new ingredient lists after a small reformulation just to keep track, this review is based on old ones as I just bought the new formulations and only opened the powder

I have used Lumene's CC products for years now, ever since I tried them the first time, quite soon after the release

I think the old and new color "light" is basically the same (despite the line getting more colors)

I don't think the cream oxidises, not noticeably at least, but I have just recently realized that it could happen so haven't really paid attention

I should try more products from Lumene now, after all they have never truly disappointed me and I've tried quite a many things from foundations to lipglosses ever since I was a teenager, but never any skincare! I just think most of them (the interesting ones, not the basic range or nordic girl or whatever the new line is called) are a tad overpriced... maybe the next -20 % sale gets me!

Price:

Both around 15 €, but quite often on sale for 10 €

Bought from:

Supermarket

Buy again?

Maybe. Despite both the powder and cream being my long-time friends, I have started to question, that maybe I should find something better. My skin has changed throughout the years, so at least trying something different is a good call. How can I know otherwise if anything better even exists!

Worth the money?

For me, yes, these products have saved me many times. They are versatile and there's nothing wrong with them. Price-quality ratio is excellent.

Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Gel Wash 200 ml Review

Ingredients:

Aqua/Water, Glycerin, PEG-200 Hydrogenated Glyceryl Palmate, Coco-Betaine, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Polysorbate 20, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Citric Acid, Cocamide Mea, PEG-55 Propylene Glycol Oleate, Polyquaternium-11, PPG-5-Ceteth-20, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Hydroxide, Vitis Vinifera Fruit Water/Grape Fruit Water.

I try to mark the sunscreen ingredients in red and other possible irritants in lilac. Ingredients thought to be good and useful for skin I mark green.  Learning as I go, google is my friend etc...

Thoughts:

Stings eyes! Be careful!

The first couple of times I used it I felt my skin was a bit dry afterwards, then the feeling just went away and it doesn't happen anymore?

Should be used within 6 months from opening (I seem to be frugal by nature and everything lasts forever!)

The pump bottle is great, not flimsy at all and dispenses a perfect amount at a time

Cleanses very, very well in my opinion, actually the best out of the cleansers I have used (which is not many)

Gets rid of eye make up, stubborn primers and everything, however my eye make up is not usually heavy and I rarely wear lipstick

Can be used on its own to double or triple cleanse... don't really need oil cleanser first to remove anything, just gently wash my face twice with this gel (good for lazy days, drunk evenings, travelling...)

+ Good for combination skin, doesn't dry my cheeks but also at the same time effectively takes off oil on my T-area, it's not too light or too heavy

No fragrance, slight no-smell smell, hospital-like?

Doesn't irritate

Consistency is like gel water, doesn't make me pull my skin at all

+ Easy to get and cheap price

* When I first tried this cleansing gel, it didn't excite me very much, and still I feel it's a bit boring as a product but hey, it works!

I actually was going to buy a micellar water but while looking at the products, I went for this one instead! Then several months later forced myself to buy the micellar water as well, because curious

I don't know if Garnier Gel Wash actually soothes the skin as it promises on the package but I do think it's suitable for sensitive skin. Maybe people with very, very dry skin should use caution because of my first reaction?

I hope this doesn't get discontinued! It's very reliable non-fuss product

I think oil cleanser + micellar gel wash is an excellent combo and I'll keep doing it until I find something better, maybe I'll get another bottle of baby oil for heavy eye and lip make-up because I still haven't found anything else near as gentle and effective for that

Price:

Maybe 6 € / 200 ml

Bought from:

Supermarket

Buy again?

Yes.

Worth the money?

Yes, I would definitely recommend to try Garnier Micellar Cleansing Gel Wash! Cleanses well, doesn't irritate sensitive skin, better than Garnier Micellar Water (in my own opinion), lasts a long time and easy to use pump bottle.
