I try to mark the sunscreen ingredients in red and other possible irritants in lilac. Ingredients thought to be good and useful for skin I mark green.  Learning as I go, google is my friend etc...

Thoughts:

If I remember right, the brush thing was quite annoying and didn't work properly. You had to try to clean the brush after every use but it was challenging. Also it wasn't good at applying the product anyway, I had to use my fingers. The brush was somehow too long and not precise.

You had to push the liquid out of the tube into the brush by twisting the end of the stick, and you never got the right amount of product. Only very little, barely at all, and suddenly a huge lump, dripping everywhere and you just had to use it all. Maybe that's why I used the highlighter/concealer/whatever is was stick all over my face!

Because of the technical difficulties or me being unable to use a product correctly, I run out of the sticks very fast. And it wasn't cost effective, even though they weren't very expensive.

I think if I remember right, I used the highlighter/concealer stick under my eyes, as well as on top of blemishes. It was a quite a versatile thing, I think I also used it all over the T-area.

The formula and colour were right and seemed to melt into my skin and skintone well, even though it did have a neutral pink hue. End result was natural and brightening.

I don't remember that the product would have oxidized or creased (but now it did on my hand when I tried the expired product). If it wore off, if must have worn off quite evenly. But I had a younger person skin back then, too...

Wasn't drying or irritating at all. My eyes are quite sensitive.

* Ok, Lumene discontinued Natural Code in 2017. Nordic Girl replaced Natural Code, and I think I read somewhere Lumene is already discontinuing Nordic Girl as well. And here is me, who still happens to have a Natural Code highlighter/concealer stick hiding in the drawer. :) You can imagine I haven't used it for a while... So I don't remember very clearly how it worked.

Price:

Can't honestly remember. Maybe 5 € / 1,8 ml ?

Bought from:

Supermarkets

Buy again?

No, discontinued. But I did repurchase it a couple of times back then.

Worth the money?

I must have thought it was. But also in a way, I did stop buying the sticks or I had to because Natural Code was discontinued, can't remember. Anyway, afterwards I haven't bought a single thing resembling them. I secretly must have hated the twist end packaging style with the brush applicator! But also, I haven't found any concealers I would have wanted to purchase for my undereyes afterwards either.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Targeted Gel 2,5 ml Review

Ingredients:

Aqua/Water/Eau, Alcohol Denat, Glycerin, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Calophyllum Inophyllum Seed Oil, Mel/Honey/Miel, Salix Alba Bark Extract/ Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, Melaleuca Alternifolia Leaf Oil/Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Carbomer, Aminomethyl Propanol, Limonene, Citral, Citronellol, Denatonium Benzoate, Leptospermum Petersonii Oil, Tocopherol.

I try to mark the sunscreen ingredients in red and other possible irritants in lilac. Ingredients thought to be good and useful for skin I mark green.  Learning as I go, google is my friend etc...

Thoughts:

Didn't really make any difference whether I used the stick or not. Did not help the spots to heal and did not prevent them, really.

Expensive as hell if you look at the price per ml.

Not really hygienic to use the applicator straight on skin.

Pleasant clear light gel liquid, doesn't make a mess, dries quickly.

Also pleasant light tea tree smell. Not pleasant if you don't like tea tree though.

* Yet another The Body Shop tea tree product I got some time ago in a gift set. I actually used it a long time ago... or tried to use it... just now found the stick again. I guess I didn't dare to throw it away, thinking I still might use it later. Or something.

Price:

11,90 €

Bought from:

Got as a gift

Buy again?

No.

Worth the money?

No. Yet another thing that didn't do anything for me. Didn't make things better or worse. Very expensive as well! The tube is only 2,5 ml! That means the liquid costs 476 € per 100 ml! And even if one stick costs "only" 11,90 €, think about all the other acne treatments you could get instead of this stick. Well, the stick form and gel consistency are handy, when you don't want the product to spread all over the face. Still, spot treating with tea tree oil + squalane is a lot more effective.

Etude House Proof 10 Eye Primer 10 g Review

Ingredients:

This is a list you can find on Etude House's international website:

TALC, ISODODECANE, VP/HEXADECENE COPOLYMER, MICA, TRIMETHYLSILOXYSILICATE, CYCLOPENTASILOXANE, DISTEARDIMONIUM HECTORITE TRIHYDROXYSTEARIN, SILICA DIMETHYL SILYLATE, TITANIUM DIOXIDE, SORBITAN SESQUIOLEATE, PEG-40 STEARATE, BEESWAX, PROPYLENE CARBONATE, DIMETHICONE, CYCLOHEXASILOXANE, METHICONE, BHT, PROPYLPARABEN, CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499.

But this is what is on the packaging, so the product has been either reformulated and the website has an old list, or my product is from an older batch, who knows. I just know that the lists are so different that they sound completely different products. I bought my eye primer in November 2018 but opened it this year:

Cyclopentasiloxane, talc, mica (CI 77019), hydrogenated polysobutene, trimethylsiloxysilicate, isododecane, trihydroxystearin, vp/hexadecane copolymer, polysobutene, disteardimonium hectorite, silica dimethyl silylate, titanium dioxide (CI 77891), beeswax, peg-40 stearate, sorbitan sesquioleate, propylene carbonate, bismuth oxychloride, caprylyl glycol, cyclohexasiloxane, dimethicone, 1,2-hexanediol, ethylhexylglycerin, CI 77492, methicone, CI 77491, CI 77499, bht.

Thoughts:

The applicator and bottle design is difficult. You can't get everything out of the bottle, you can't squeeze it or cut it.

The applicator doesn't make much sense because you can't apply the product properly with it, you still have to use your fingers to pat it on. Also if you apply it straight, you are taking all the bacteria from your skin back in to the bottle. I wash my hands and pat the product from the applicator to my finger and then to my eyes.

The primer does not make eye makeup last that long. I think 6 hours max on oily eyelids and the creasing has started at around 3-4 hour mark. This on a normal day, no too much sweating, normal temperature but still going out and about.

- Doesn't seem to affect the vibrancy of eye makeup.

Does make the eye makeup last somewhat longer, about double what it would without. (Not very long for me still.)

Easy to spread, gel-like, light, doesn't roll, can be layered.

Is not super sticky after applying, it's easy to put on eyeshadow without the brush sticking on it. (But, it's probably affecting the staying power when the makeup doesn't stick to the product extra well.)

No scent, not irritating, not drying, no heavy feel. Slightly brightens the eye contour. Smooths the base for the eye shadows but does not really hide veins or other bumps and wrinkles.

* People seem to generally compare Proof 10 Eye Primer to the infamous Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion. UD Primer costs about 20 € for 10 ml, when EH Primer costs about 4-5 € for 10 g. They both have similar applicators as well. I haven't tried Urban Decay one so I can't compare.

I have the most oily eyelids. It's so strange that they don't usually feel or look super oily, but they eat all makeup super fast anyway, including both eye shadow and mascara. Without any primers eye shadows last maybe 1-2 hours on me.

I recently bought Essence's You Better Work Gym Proof + Waterproof Eye Primer and I really like it! I definitely recommend it over Etude House's Proof 10. And costs about the same, maybe even slightly less.

Price:

5,28 USD

Bought from:

Ebay seller ibuybeauti

Buy again?

No.

Worth the money?

This is a difficult one. Etude House's Proof 10 Eye Primer is definitely not worth it for me but so many people love it... it must work for someone. Yes, it is cheap, yes, it does double the longevity of eye shadows, but for me it only means the 3-4 hours in normal conditions (less if I sweat, temperature is warm, I walk a lot; more if it's extremely cold and I don't go outside or move at all). The packaging is cute but unpractical. Maybe if you don't normally use or need the primer, or your eyelids are dry, it would be quite nice extra, just smoothing the base for the rest of the makeup.

Kicks Beauty Deep Cleansing Oil

Kicks Beauty Enzyme Peel Gel Mask

Kicks Beauty Ready, Set, Glow! Vitamin C Face Tonic

Some time ago (in March?!) Kicks had some club or sale week (?) and for one day Kicks Beauty was off -50%. My town doesn't have Kicks so I sent my mom to the store with a list and she got some things they still happened to have on shelf.  My mom tried and seemed to like the Vitamin C Face Tonic so I just decanted a little for myself and left the bottle for my mom. Deep Cleansing Oil also seems like a good product, it's less oily feeling than the Korean cleansing oils that I've tried. It rinses off clean as well. I am definitely impressed by Kicks Beauty products so far. When is the next -50% going to be?! Sincerely, a poor customer.

Numis Med Urea 5% Shampoo

Cost 5 €. The store must have gotten one batch of Numis Med products for a good price. I've never seen them before. Never heard of them. Probably will never see them again. But they look nice! And hey urea!

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Sun Defense for Face SPF 50

Birthday gift. Was on -30% sale as well! That's why I suggested I could try it. It feels overpriced otherwise (about 30 €). Been unable to properly use it yet because of my other skin woes.

Garnier SkinActive Moisture Bomb Tissue Mask Super Hydrating Soothing for Dry and Sensitive Skin

Been curious about these masks for a while. I think it was 2 € and I decided it is worth it to check it out. Also, how can you resist the cute pink packaging?!

L'Oréal Paris Life’s a Peach Blush Powder

L'Oréal Paris Back to Bronze Bronzing Powder

Both were 5 €, a price I can't resist (normal price about 17 €). Are they being discontinued or was it just one store getting rid of stock? I love them both so good for me!

EDIT:

Catrice Blush Box 010 Soft Rose

For 2 € (on sale as well) I just couldn't resist. Was unsure of the shade but wanted to try it anyway, especially because I already had the darker 050 Burgundy and the pigment and staying power really surprised me. When I tried Soft Rose at first I thought I had wasted my money as I felt it looked muddy, but when I came back to it later I thought it is a great natural shade, for both cheeks and eyes! Nice pink for a warmer skintone.

Differin Gel 0.1 %

I was browsing iherb idly to get to know the website, and noticed they are selling Differin! People always talk about it (adapalene, good for acne) but it is prescription only in my country. Probably I don't need it, because Skinoren (azelaic acid) has been working so well for me. Well, I will see when my order gets here!

Maybelline Blushed Nudes Palette Review / Swatches / Thoughts

I guess this doesn't count much as a review but my own thoughts about the colors and how I feel about them. I am currently re-inventing myself and my colors and I want to make sure I make good new purchases so that I actually will wear the new makeup I get. Of course it doesn't mean I can't have fun with colors but I think it's important to find the tones that can't go wrong. As I age, as I dye my hair different shades etc I notice that the same colors don't suit me anymore that used to about 10 years ago!

Anyway, I got this palette maybe... 5 years ago? Not very long after Maybelline released it. I remember thinking "This is absolutely perfect. I will not need any other palette." So actually this palette is the only one I currently own! But I don't want to make hasty decisions now so haven't bought more. I didn't really wear makeup for a long time and even this palette still almost looks untouched. I am currently browsing a lot of eye shadow palettes and trying to figure out what I actually want! Also trying to find a perfect eye primer for oily eyelids.

As for the quality of Blushed Nudes palette, I don't have anything to compare it to right now or the experience to say whether the shades are chalky or creamy or if they are pigmented enough.

But other thoughts:

+  I do have to say I like the double ended brush that comes with the palette! A bit small, but soft and picks a good amount of product.

+  The palette is also a good size, not too heavy, fits well in a makeup purse, also not too big pans.

+  Looks pretty and elegant, feels sturdy, you can see all the shades without the need to open the lid.

+  The shades are exactly what they promise, blushed nudes. Pink and brown. Nothing weird or difficult.

-  As for the shades, I think there could be a bit more versatility? I am not feeling the lighter shades for some reason (they are so cool?) and only a couple of the brown shades make me excited.

-  Finishes all look almost the same to me. I personally would like to have more something completely different as well.

-  The shadows barely stay an hour or two on my oily eyelids without a primer. I would think there is something about the formula of the eye shadows that some stay better than some and it's not all to blame my oiliness (even though maybe 90% it is)? Even with primer they stay without bad creasing/significant fading for 3-6 hours maybe. Depends on the primer though.

-  Even though I don't mind the pigment, still I have to come back several times to pick more product for some shades. I do get to the end results I want by layering but it is a bit time consuming. But again, I think it's beginner friendly.

Price:

About 15 €

Worth the money?

I think Blushed Nudes is overall a good affordable palette, I am just not really feeling it anymore. Maybe I did not feel it to begin with considering I used it very little. It might take me a while to really know what I like. I am going to use this palette, at least finish the couple shades I find comfortable. It's good to have something to practise with!

Ingredients:

Talc, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Silica, CI 77713/Magnesium Carbonate, Magnesium Myristate, Pentaerythrityl Tetraisostearate, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Stearyl Dimethicone, Caprylic /Capric Triglyceride, Nylon-12, Aluminum, Starch Octenylsuccinate, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Caprylyl Glycol, Diisostearyl Malate, Dimethicone, Dehydroacetic Acid, Octadecene, Phenoxyethanol, Hexylene Glycol, Aqua, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-Di-T-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Triolein, Tin Oxide, Stearic Acid, Maltodextrin, Palmitic Acid, LAuric Acid, . Swatches

Shadows are swatched dry, without any primers. Photographed outside obviously because nothing was showing up in inside photos.

Outside light but no sun:

When the sun came out:

I have gone through all the shades and analysed how I feel. I thought the light colors were a bit difficult to get to show. My skin is neutral warm yellow brownish (possibly some olive hue or just otherwise difficult undertone? But everyone seems to say they are olive nowadays so I'm confused) and light-medium, maybe NC20-25 (I have never been matched and I can look both pale and tan depending on lighting and clothes). My eyes are quite neutral blue, like deep cerulean.

I describe the colors as I see them, I might update some musings:

1. Ivory. Also one of the colors that was most used. Basic. Looks pinkish in the picture, I don't know why. Did I accidentally mix the colors? Good for inner corners of eyes but not feeling it as a base because it's so light.

2. Rose Goldish/Rosé Wine. I like this one, good base. Natural brightening, neutral. Very easy to use and is ok on it's own as well.

3. Champagne. Neutral, inner corner shade. If used fully on lid looks very silvery and makes me look at the same time green and orange and dull. How is that possible? In the arm picture looks again too pink.

4. Powder Pink. Not really feeling this shade, looks quite cool pink on me. But I'm not a huge fan of pink eyeshadow at the moment anyway so my taste affects my opinion, probably.

5. Mauve. Not feeling this shade either. My eyes look bruised, sunken and tired. Also makes my skin look even more yellow in comparison. Straight out violet on me.

6. Warm Brown. Actually very pretty brown shade. Don't understand why I have barely touched it.

7. Warm Bronze Brown. Looks very good on me! Natural and brightening. One of my favorites of the shades.

8. Dark Brown. Looks very cool tone on me, even if I don't put on many layers. Kinda harsh.

9. Neutral Brown. One of the colors most used in the past.

10.  Greyish Black Brown. Ok, am I losing my mind? It looks warm in this arm swatch. But on my eyes, it looks hilariously cool. Like a zombie. I am thinking I don't know how to use darker shades properly.

11. Dark Rose Gold. Such a beautiful, radiating shade on my arm, but looks somewhat violet near my eyes! Must try more looks.

12. Cool Black Brown. Again, not really feeling this one.

L'Oréal Paris Stylista The Beach Wave Mist 200 ml Review

Ingredients:

aqua / water , magnesium sulfate , alcohol denat. , glucose , peg-40 hydrogenated castor oil , phenoxyethanol , benzyl salicylate , benzyl alcohol , maris sal / sea salt , citric acid , coumarin , hexyl cinnamal ,parfum / fragrance.

I try to mark the sunscreen ingredients in red and other possible irritants in lilac. Ingredients thought to be good and useful for skin I mark green.  Learning as I go, google is my friend etc...

Thoughts:

If you spray a lot of product, hair turns crunchy

If you spray a lot of product several days in a row, yes it makes hair a bit dry - this is a salt mist with a lot of alcohol!

I don't recommend this one for dry, damaged hair

- If you think you can just spray The Beach Wave Mist and you immediately have curls... just no. (I read some negative comments about this mist where people complained it didn't give them curls!!?) You have to twist and work your hair, or make braids, or curl hair beforehand... and if you don't have wavy hair to begin with or your hair is heavy, long, extremely straight... you have to work harder to achieve the waves/curls and maybe you will not even get the same result

- Might cause reactions to fragrance sensitive people

The mist could be finer but this is maybe nitpicking

Creates great natural texture and fullness, on a short hair at least

Quite a lot of hold, hair stays nice all day, doesn't go fully flat at any point

Doesn't make hair heavy, oily, or slimy at all: I can freely spray it on the roots and ends both

Mild fragrance, quite pleasant (however my sister/mom both said it lingers and makes their noses stuffy/irritated, I didn't smell anything at all at that point!)

Doesn't tangle my hair, easy to wash off

My hair still has texture the next day and it's not dirty looking at all if I haven't washed my hair in the evening

Very quick to use, dries quickly

+ The bottle has a good design, sprays a nice amount at a time and the lock system works well

* My hair type is a lot of very, very thin hair strands. My hair is very flat, but it has some wave to it when it's short. Not frizzy nor silky. Currently it's dyed, but not bleached. When it was long (butt length) it was straight and didn't hold a curl more than an hour or two unless I used a full bottle of hairspray. I tried to find out my hair type, but it seems my hair is a mix of 1A, 1B and 2A! My scalp is oily but usually in balance when treated right. I did have some time ago extreme oiliness and itchiness, so I think I'm prone to fungal infections. I'm not very keen on products that make my hair or scalp even more oily or heavy.

I use L'Oréal Paris Stylista The Beach Wave Mist just by spraying it on my hair while leaning my head down first, to get texture everywhere, then I get up and spray more while lifting and crunching/twisting the top part of hair. This ordeal takes maybe a minute, or two. It gives me great volume and some waves.

This is my first salt mist so I can't compare it to other similar products. I am interested in trying other salt mists/beach wave mists or other mists offering texture. I feel like I have seen the light that solves my hair problems.

Buy again?

Yes.

Worth the money?

Yes! I'm so surprised, so happy I've found something that suits my everyday lifestyle, is very affordable and easy to find. I think I've used The Beach Wave Mist 2-3 months? And I'm now about half way the bottle. Great product if you are looking for something like this, for me the mist has completely replaced ordinary hairsprays! And if you don't have too destroyed and dry hair or scalp, of course. Don't know how the mist performs with thick, coarse, silky or long hair though.

The Ordinary Amino Acids + B5 30 ml Review

Ingredients:

Aqua (Water), Propanediol, Betaine, Sodium PCA, Panthenol, Sodium Lactate, Arginine, PCA, Aspartic Acid, Glycine, Alanine, Serine, Threonine, Valine, Proline, Isoleucine, Lysine HCl, Histidine, Phenylalanine, Glutamic Acid, Citric Acid, Dimethyl Isosorbide, Polysorbate 20, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol.

I try to mark the sunscreen ingredients in red and other possible irritants in lilac. Ingredients thought to be good and useful for skin I mark green.  Learning as I go, google is my friend etc...

Thoughts:

Not a product I really need? Great to use, feels wonderful, I can see and feel the difference but somehow I use it, then don't use it, when I don't use it I don't miss it but when I use it I absolutely love it??? I guess it is all about how my skin is doing at the moment.

Leaves skin smooth and soft. Absolutely lovely feeling on skin. I like using it.

No tingling for me (The Ordinary says you might experience some).

Just like water, "absorbs" immediately, if you can say so. It disappears but leaves the soft film like feeling on skin.

Works well with all of my other products.

Very hydrating and moisturizing for the watery consistency.

No scent.

Great extra serum during winter. Can replace moisturizer during summer if it's hot and humid (which it rarely is though) or if the sunscreen is moisturizing. Good base for makeup, doesn't pill.

+ Includes 5% of Panthenol. Haven't straight out noticed that the serum would be soothing/repairing though. Probably still helps the feel/hydration of the serum.

* I have read somewhere people discussing that there's no need for Amino Acids + B5 if you are already using NMF in some other product, like The Ordinary's NMF Moisturizer. Still, in my opinion, both are different products and useful in their own ways, very versatile. That is if you need them.

* I said that the serum doesn't cause tingling for me, but once I just went and patted three (!) layers on because my skin felt so smooth after adding it, and I got the great idea of seeing what would happen if I put more... well... that I could call tingling and tickling for about 20 minutes :). It wasn't painful at all but yeah, do avoid layering this product.

I have used Amino Acids + B5 for a while on and off so can't really say how many months... 5? 6? 8? So it's pretty easy to easy to say I'm not exactly dependent on this product.

Price:

6,80 € / 30 ml

Bought from:

The Ordinary website

Buy again?

Maybe, Yes? I'm confused. I still have some left so I guess it depends how I feel when ordering again from The Ordinary.

Worth the money?

Yes, Amino Acids + B5 serum is worth the money. It's very affordable considering how lovely, watery and at the same time hydrating and moisturizing it is! It has worked with all of my other products. I have used it under or on top of most of the basic things and I haven't noticed any problems. I think it suits all skin types.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Squeaky-Clean Scrub 100 ml Review

Ingredients:

Aqua/Water/Eau, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Glycerin, Lauryl Betaine, Acrylates Copolymer, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Propanediol, Perlite, Phenoxyethanol, Melaleuca Alternifolia Leaf Oil/Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Mannitol, Sodium Chloride, p-Anisic Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Cellulose, PEG-120 Methyl Glucose Dioleate, Acacia Concinna Fruit Extract, Balanites Aegyptiaca Fruit Extract, Menthol, Disodium EDTA, Gypsophila Paniculata Root Extract, Limonene, Calophyllum Inophyllum Seed Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Sorbic Acid, Leptospermum Petersonii Oil, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Tocopherol, CI 19140/Yellow 5, CI 42090/Blue 1.

I try to mark the sunscreen ingredients in red and other possible irritants in lilac. Ingredients thought to be good and useful for skin I mark green.  Learning as I go, google is my friend etc...

Thoughts:

Leaves skin squeaky clean, which probably means it's a high pH drying cleanser/scrub and/or it has enough tea tree oil to create the effect

Definitely could make skin dry if used almost every day but it is not suggested by The Body Shop either

The scrub does everything it promises to do, but it's not a wow item and I don't think it makes much difference whether I use it or not

Even though it leaves skin squeaky clean, it is exactly what it promises to do, so it's a plus it lives up to the expectations at least!

Kind of pleasant to use, it has these little scrub beads and the scrub foams gently and it rinses off clean

Pleasant kind of tea tree scent in my opinion but it is still very much like tea tree, if you happen to dislike the smell altogether

Leaves skin kind of soft, not silky soft, more like purified, scrubbed soft

The scrub is not long-term drying when used a couple of times a week as the instructions suggest

It's not breaking me out

100 ml will last for a long time as you really need very little of the product as it spreads and foams so well. It does not make any difference to use more.

* I like tea tree products. I got a small set of The Body Shop Tea Tree products as a gift some time ago and this scrub was among them. I had forgotten it but found it in my stash and been using it for 2-4 months maybe? Enough to put down some thoughts.

I haven't tried too many scrubs before, something from Neutrogena, it did work quite nicely because I didn't use anything else exfoliating back then. So, I bet Tea Tree Squeaky Clean Scrub delivers different results for everyone.

Price:

14,50 € / 100 ml

Bought from:

Got as a gift

Buy again?

No. But still would use if someone gifted me one.

Worth the money?

For how long the product lasts and how I find it pleasant to use, I'd say yes, but on the other side, if we look at the effectiveness it does pretty much nothing for me, in good and bad. But I will finish the scrub which will take probably a year or two at my pace! Maybe I'll start to use it on my feet and armpits as well. The Tea Tree Squeaky Clean Scrub is definitely something aimed at oily skin, ok for combination skin, probably not disastrous for dry skin either if used once in a while but still would not recommend it.
